Oilfab Completes Offshore Platform Project

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- Oilfab Sdn Bhd expects its construction of topside and jacket structures for the Chermingat-A platform to contribute positively to earnings this year, chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Mohamad Hazali Abu Hassan said Friday.

He noted that the building of the two structures, at Oilfab's Pulau Indah Fabrication Yard, is a crucial springboard for the company as it is Oilfab's first major project related to the fabrication of offshore structures of this magnitude.

"With this milestone, we look forward to the fabrication of heavier and larger structures, especially in delivering on time and within the project specifications," he said in statement here.

The mechanical completion date for the jacket was concluded last June 16 and the topside on June 20.

A subsidiary of Oilcorp Bhd, the company had received the RM40 million project from Newfield Peninsular Malaysia Inc in August last year.

Weighing 1,564 metric tons (mt), the platform is operated by Newfield and co-owned by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.

Mohamad Hazali said Oilfab has completed the loadout activities for both structures. These structures are destined for offshore Terengganu.

He said all operations were managed and performed by Oilfab, including the weighing of the topside and the accompanying sea-fastening and tie-down.

"We are pleased with the results as our bulkhead easily accommodated the weight and size of the structures and it also supports a substantial capacity of up to 2,500 mt," he added.
