East Bengal are the Super Cup 2011 Champions

Super Cup 2011
East Bengal 9-8 Salgaocar (0-0 after Full Time)

East Bengal came out as deserved winners of the Super Cup 2011 finale after a heart wrenching finish which saw as many as 10 shots taken in the tie-breaker by each team. The match ended 9-8 after both team missed once.

Karanjit Singh was in Splendid form
Alan Gow, tested the Salgaocar
Defence with his freekicks everytime
The match started on a brisk note as expected, but after a while it was East Bengal who dominated the proceedings and started to dominate the possession. Alan Gow paired up with Robin Singh in the attack which looked dangerous in the start but Robin Singh on several occasions failed to get his basics right with some poor trapping in some good positions. The highlight of the match was Alan Gow's blistering shots in set-pieces.It was Indian International Karanjit Singh who looked the best of all in the Salgaocar jersey. The Salgaocar custodian made some blistering saves to stop the Scottish player. Without Karanjit Singh's saves, Salgaocar might have been thrashed by a dominant East Bengal. The match was full of yellow cards as rash challenges came in from all sides. The match ended 0-0 after full time as both teams failed to get their name on the scoreboard.

It was Salgaocar's Jashpal Parmar who made the first miss when Gurpreet Singh blocked one shot, but when it mattered the most, East Bengal could not capitalize as  Ravinder missed his shot as Karanjit came to his teams rescue. Then came the sudden deaths where both team managed to score for four consecutive times as scoreline read 8-8, but then came a miss from Salgaocar's half with Gurpreet making another save after coming close to making several shots. It was Meetei who made a mistake with his shot hitting the crosspiece. Saikat Saha made no mistake in putting the ball inside the net when the moment of glory was knocking at the doors.

Thus the match ended, 9-8 to East Bengal's favor and thus bringing the first trophy to Kolkata. The win will definitely boost the confidence of the team before the i-League.
