After Varin Mehta who signed for Belgium second Division Club Royal Antwerp, its Ankit Sharma , a 20 year old lad from Delhi who has made the headlines following his move to Spanish Club – Club Deportivo San Cristobal Football Club. It was the Spanish Club scouts who spotted him while he was playing for i-League side HAL(Hindustan Aeronoutics Limited).
Ankit Sharma has represented India in various age groups starting from U-14. The signing makes him the 5th Indian to sign for a foreign Club after the likes of Mohammed Salim(Celtic), Bhaichung Bhutia(Bury FC), Sunil Chhetri(Sporting Kansas) and the recently concluded signing of Varin Mehta(Royal Antwerp).
Though the Spanish Club are nowhere in the race of the Madrids or Barcelonas but the club has been acting as a power house of providing quality footballers to several top clubs. One of those names are none other than Legendary Spanish Forward Raul who currently ply his trade in Bundesliga side Schalke 04.
The club C.D CRISTOBAL FC is in Group 3 of Primera Aficionados in the Community of Madrid, which lies in 6th level in Spanish football System.
The official announcement of Ankit Sharma will be done in 20th October 2011.
Though the singing might not seem to be a big one considering the division in which the club is playing, it will definitely the correct place where Indian players can aim at where they can get a good chance to play for the first team instead of going to a top team and warming the bench.
