Polanski's wife says their worst moments are over

WARSAW, Poland — The wife of Roman Polanski says she believes the 32-year-old sexual abuse case against her husband will be finished soon.

French actress and singer Emmanuelle Seigner, 43, is to appear in a TVN24 interview in Poland on Monday and the station ran some clips before its broadcast.

The 76-year-old Polanski was arrested in September on a U.S. arrest warrant and is under house arrest in the couple's house in Gstaad, Switzerland, pending an extradition decision.

Seigner says their life is "not ideal" but is "good" because Polanski can see their two children, Morgane and Elvis.

She says she believes the matter will be "solved and over pretty soon" and that the "toughest moments are behind us."

The singer is in Poland to promote a new album.

Hit the link above for more photos of Emanuelle singing.

Actor Gary Oldman was recently asked what roles he has turned down through the years and he said:

"Well, I was once asked to play Charles Manson but I wouldn’t do it as courtesy to the Tate family. I was also asked to play Adolf Hitler but neither did I do that."

I wonder if he knows the Tates?  Or just didn't want to do it out of respect for the family?

Debra Tate Disturbed to Find Murder Scene Items Used in Exhibition, Rare Photos of Celebrities, and Some Rare Videos

I got the computer tonight and was surprised by the news that the LAPD had items on a display at a homicide investigators conference in Las Vegas that were very graphic and 'too close to home' for victims.

Apparently, the rope that hung Sharon and Jay was on display and even Robert Kennedy's shirt from his assasination was there.  There were also some weapons used at the Manson murders on display.  The items have since been removed.

"This is supposed to be a learning experience," Police Chief Charlie Beck told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "It wasn't intended to cause anyone grief or to be prurient or salacious in any way."

Debra Tate, the sister of Sharon Tate, said she and family members of other victims should have been notified in advance that evidence was going to be shown.

"A little warning would have been nice so we could prepare ourselves emotionally," Tate said. "It's part of the insensitivity the department shows toward victims. We're being victimized over and over again.

"From my perspective it's very disturbing. Number one, I didn't get any notice that this was going to occur.

"These are very personal artifacts to me. These are things that bring back horrible memories, not only for myself, but other Manson family victims."

Tate plans to complain to the LAPD. However, she said she understands the value of the exhibit.

"I understand using it as a teaching tool and keeping the public aware of how heinous these murders were," she said. "From that aspect it's very important."

More of the Translated Article: Sharon Talks About Polanski, Roman's New Film is a Critical Hit and what Ewan McGregor says about working on the film.

L'Europeo August 21, 1969

My meeting with Sharon Tate

by Adriano Botta

Continued from yesterday...

Sharon colorized art from Deviant Art.

"The critics (for Eye of the Devil), however, admited that my beauty was charged with sexuality.  This at once made me shudder and at the same time excited," says Sharon Tate at the banquet after her marriage. Roman Polanski nodded in a small, dark corner with the pictures of the faces of Mickey Mouse behind him.

She gradually made two other films, The Valley of the Dolls and Don't Make Waves with Tony Curtis and Claudia Cardinale. Then she began echoing her meeting with Polanski for The Fearless Vampire Killers. "It was an encounter that changed everything in my life. I had never before known such a man. I am terribly in love with him. He has taught me many things. Not only to remain naked with joy and ease, but also to live life with more intensity-- I--who am so lazy that I could sleep at night and day.

"It is not true that we take a lot of drugs. To me, Roman is a drug. Next to him I feel drugged. I do not take drugs from his orders.  Instead we go roaring around in a red Ferrari that runs with of the wind. I was ordered not to smoke anymore, because the tobacco, would ruin my teeth. He ordered me not to wear underwear because it leaves marks on the skin. And without the constraints of bourgeois body, it is much more beautiful and natural. In The Fearless Vampire Killers we have made our first film together. I play a bewitching part, or rather, I portray a vampire. At first I am not a vampire though, no, I'm a country girl kidnapped by vampires. Roman, who besides directing the film has a part in it.  He falls in love with me and saves me before all the blood was sucked out of me by the vampires. But she does not get a transfusion. The blood and rigor in the films of Roman. So much so that she leaves the country with this tremendous experience a new taste. The taste of blood. She becomes a vampire and changes him into one too. The finish is spectacular. I grow teeth like Dracula. I must confess: I like the macabre Roman does.  It is exciting to me.  He is a macabre genius."

Ewan McGregor on Polanski:

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/02/18/the-ghost-writer-star-ewan-mcgregor-on-his-upcoming-projects/

Sorry mainstream media. Ewan McGregor, star of the Roman Polanski thriller “The Ghost Writer,” knows that you want him to dish on the 76-year-old director, who’s currently under house arrest in Switzerland stemming from a 1977 sex-charge case. But he’s not biting. The actor, who plays an unnamed author hired to ghost-write a memoir for a disgraced ex-British prime minister, said he sympathizes with Polanski and feels bad for him, but that’s the furthest he’ll go.

“It’s very tricky because his whole situation is so complicated and nothing to do with me,” he said. “I worked intensely with him for four months and I felt badly for this children, whom I got to know during the shoot.”

McGregor talks more about working with Polanski in this article and it shows a clip from the film:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703444804575071470108130174.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_RIGHTTopCarousel

The Wall Street Journal: It's hard to talk about "The Ghost Writer" outside the context of Mr. Polanski's troubles. Is that fair to the film?

Mr. McGregor: I think the film is a much heavier political story than it is a commentary on Polanski's life. He really seems like a very self-assured person to me who doesn't need to make a comment on his life through his films...Polanski seems terribly private. He wasn't with us at the launch of the film [in Berlin] but quite probably, he wouldn't want be there anyway.

Mr. Polanski is notoriously direct with actors while on set. Did you find him as gruff as advertised?

He doesn't sugarcoat his notes. Most directors would tell you, "That was great, but let's try it like this." He'll just stop you mid-take and go "No no no—why are playing it like this?" and you'll just look back and be like, "I don't know, good question." We're sensitive souls, us actors, and after a while, it dents your ego, but once you realize he's like that with the set dresser and the prop man, and just about everyone, it was OK.
Morgane Polanski.  Makes you wonder what Sharon and Roman's own future daughter might have looked like?  I know their first child was a boy but I have always wondered if they had more...

Note on Polanski's "The Ghost Writer": it has 94 year old Eli Wallach who has remembered Sharon fondly when she was an extra on the film set from the movie, "Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man."  Also, Polanski's beautiful daughter Morgane playes in her dad's film.  She plays a hotel receptionist trapped in period costume.

Roman Polanski Still Scarred by Press After Sharon Tate's Death

Roman Polanski's lawyer for his most recent case against the press for invasion of privacy, Marion Gregoire says that he is still scarred by how the press treated the victims of the murders that took place in his home (when he was away in London).  That night, his lovely wife Sharon Tate--who was carrying their child--Jay Sebring, Voyteck Frykowski, Abigail Folger and Steven Parent were murdered.   The press spread many vicious rumors and flat out lies about the victims and some even tried to say that they brought it on themselves.

I found two articles on this, the first one is the best:

Polanski sues French media for invasion of privacy

By ANGELA DOLAND - Associated Press Writer

PARIS (AP) - The news snapshot shows Roman Polanski standing at a window, a thin slice of his face visible amid an opening in the curtains. The French paper that printed the photo saw it as a newsworthy depiction of the director's life under house arrest in his Swiss Alpine chalet.

Lawyers for the "Chinatown" director say that the December 2009 photo and many others invaded his privacy as well as his family's, and he and his wife are suing four French publications, two newspapers and two magazines for a total of about euro150,000 ($217,215).

In a hearing Tuesday, Polanski lawyer Marion Gregoire said the suits were an attempt "to put an urgent stop to the media spotlight" on the filmmaker and his family that has intensified in the months since a 32-year-old sex case against him was revived.

Several of the photos at issue depict Polanski's children, Elvis and Morgane- who, as minors, are especially protected by French media law.

"The legal case against Polanski in no way justifies the paparazzi's stalking of his wife and children," Gregoire said.

Invasion of privacy suits by celebrities are common in France, Polanski's permanent residence and the country where he had lived for three decades before he was arrested in September while en route to a Swiss film festival.

Polanski, arrested on a U.S. warrant, spent more than 60 days in detention in a Swiss jail before being transferred to house arrest in his Swiss vacation home on Dec. 4.

Authorities in Switzerland have not yet ruled on whether to extradite Polanski to Los Angeles. He had fled the U.S. in 1978 on the eve of sentencing after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with a minor in 1977.

In hearings Tuesday, Polanski's lawyer said he has a deeply rooted fear of the media, which she traced back to the stabbing death of his pregnant second wife, Sharon Tate. The actress and four others were murdered by followers of cult figure Charles Manson in 1969.

Polanski has said he was horrified by rumors that swirled in the press before the killers were tracked down- rumors suggesting the victims had bizarre lifestyles and somehow brought the violence upon themselves.

Since then, Gregoire said, "Polanski has feared the media like the plague" and always sought to maintain his privacy.

Gregoire argued that Le Journal du Dimanche weekly newspaper should pay damages of euro10,000 for the photo of Polanski at his window.

The paper's lawyer, Christophe Bigot, held up a photo of a mass of photographers outside Polanski's chalet soon after his house arrest started.

"Can you seriously claim in this context that if you stand at the window you won't get your picture taken?" Bigot retorted. Arguing that the photo was a legitimate depiction of a major international news story, Bigot called the suit unwarranted and asked the judge to order Polanski to pay the newspaper's legal fees.

"The press can and should cover this type of case," Bigot said.

The press surrounding Polanski's chalet.

Polanski's lawyer asked for another euro10,000 in damages from Voici magazine for a photo of Polanski's wife, actress-singer Emmanuelle Seigner, walking down a street in Switzerland- a photo that the celebrity-oriented publication called "harmless."

Polanski and his wife are also targeting magazine VSD for a spread that included photos of their children at an airport, demanding a total of euro 55,000. VSD's lawyer noted that the photos were taken in public and that the publication blurred the children's faces so they could not be recognized- a common practice in France. Decisions are expected Jan. 19.

A judge also heard a suit against Le Parisien newspaper last week, and that ruling is expected Friday.

Here is the other article I found which basically says the same thing with a different photo of Roman:
